Wednesday 28th May – Jardinique Beech
Peter Forey is kindly hosting a sketching day but you may do your own thing too. Beautiful views, barns and a lovely house to choose from. Under cover available if weather bad. With kind permission of Ed and Sarah Neish. Please contact Peter or Sally Cox for more information on the venue.
Directions : Take A339 out of Alton towards Basingstoke and turn left into Beech. Drive right through the village, approx. 2 miles and Jardinique is well signposted on the left.

A note from Peter:
For this day, those who wish to go and sketch on their own – that is fine. There are wonderful
things to sketch here.  For those who might like to try something different then if you could try to
bring the following it would help.  I will come prepared with supplies that may or may not go round.
We will experiment with two kinds of sketching:
Water soluble pencil
Lightweight board to support paper, a little larger than paper
Hot Pressed watercolour paper 140lb.  I suggest 10x7” is a reasonable size (you can buy in blocks)
Derwent watersoluble sketching pencils (they come in a variety of grades but a lightwash HB and medium wash 4B is quite sufficient)
Either a waterbrush – a brush that has a reservoir that you can fill with water OR a paintbrush and water.
Pen and wash
Lightweight board to support paper, a little larger than paper
Your usual watercolour paints and brushes with pots for water
Hot Pressed watercolour paper 140lb.  I suggest 10x7” is a reasonable size (you can buy in blocks)
Felt pen that is water insoluble (one that will not run if you apply water over it). I suggest a fine pen (0.05mm) – there are several brands out there: Staedtler pigment liner and the Edding pens are ones that I know are good.
White gouache paint (I will bring some so if you do not already use it then I can provide for today).

And, as a reminder, you may need lunch, a stool and some warm clothing.  Jardinique is high on a hill and it is noticeable that it is two or three degrees less than the centre of Alton.  There is shelter so all is not bad.
Let us hope for good weather
